A Historic First: Mothers Who Pray for Their Children Hold Inaugural Sydney Conference

Published on 2 April 2025 at 21:53

On February 16, 2025, history was made as the Mothers Who Pray for Their Children movement gathered for its first-ever Sydney Conference at the Marymount Mercy Centre in Castle Hill. Themed On the Cross, Reconciliation, this powerful event brought together mothers from all over Australia, eager to deepen their faith, strengthen their families, and unite in prayer for their children.

The day began with the hum of excitement as attendees arrived, greeted warmly by the dedicated volunteers who had worked tirelessly to bring this event to life. The atmosphere was one of sisterhood and spiritual anticipation, as mothers—some attending for the first time, others longtime members of the movement—embraced one another with joy.

A Day of Prayer and Renewal

The heart of the day commenced with Holy Mass in the chapel, setting the tone for a day of grace, healing, and divine encounter. The presence of the Eucharist prepared every mother to receive the blessings of the conference with open hearts.

Following Mass, Australian Coordinator Mary Krotwaar officially opened the conference, welcoming all attendees with heartfelt words that resonated deeply. "We are here today because we believe in the power of a mother’s prayer," she declared, igniting a renewed sense of mission among the participants.

The first session, led by the movement’s foundress Angela Abdo, explored Reconciling with God. Angela’s wisdom and testimony moved many to tears as she shared the transformative power of surrendering completely to the Lord. Her words reminded every mother that true reconciliation begins within the heart and extends to all areas of life.

Carol Ceterenski, the International English Mission Coordinator, delivered a profound talk on Reconciling with Ourselves. In a world that often pulls mothers in a thousand different directions, Carolina’s message emphasized self-compassion, healing from past wounds, and allowing God’s love to renew one’s spirit.

Afternoon tea provided a moment for fellowship, where mothers connected over shared experiences, forming bonds that will undoubtedly continue beyond the conference.

The Power of Forgiveness and Family Reconciliation

As the conference resumed, beautifuly sung hymns led by May Park filled the air, and a spirit of peace settled over the room in preparation for the Rosary for Forgiveness. Led with deep reverence, the chaplet rosary was a powerful moment of intercession, as mothers lifted up their children, families, and communities in prayer.

Fr. Rob Galea took the stage to speak on Reconciling with Family. With his signature blend of personal testimony, humor, and deep spiritual insight, Fr. Rob illuminated the ways God calls families to unity, healing, and mutual forgiveness. His talk was met with nods of agreement and moments of profound reflection.

Mary Krotwaar followed with the topic of Reconciling with Others, a session that touched on restoring relationships beyond the family unit—friendships, communities, and even within the Church itself. Many mothers left this talk inspired to mend broken relationships and extend Christ’s love in new ways.

Charbel Raish, the founder of Parousia Media, closed the main sessions with a thought-provoking talk on Reconciling with Created Things. He challenged attendees to consider their relationship with material possessions, the environment, and how faith should guide all aspects of life.

A Call to Continue the Mission

As the day drew to a close, the conference wrapped up with information about the next conference and an upcoming pilgrimage. The room buzzed with excitement, as many mothers expressed their eagerness to continue their journey with Mothers Who Pray for Their Children.

As attendees slowly made their way home, there was a palpable sense that something truly extraordinary had taken place. Hearts had been touched, prayers had been lifted, and mothers had been strengthened in their vocation to intercede for their children.

This inaugural Sydney Conference was more than just an event—it was the beginning of something beautiful and lasting. As the movement continues to grow across Australia, one thing is certain: the prayers of mothers are powerful, and when united, they can move mountains.

For those who missed this conference, don’t worry—the journey is just beginning. Join us at our next gathering, become part of a prayer group in your area, and experience the grace that comes when mothers unite in prayer for their children.
